Comparing Operating Systems – Windows Vs Linux
January 2nd, 2012
If you look at popular models of computers, you might think that Windows is the only operating system people use, with the exception of those who prefer Macintosh. There is another operating system, that can be downloaded by anyone, free of charge, named Linux, and it comes with a whole community of people. Let’s take a closer look at Linux and how it compares to Windows in various ways.
Although people who are technically minded may tell you that Linux is simple to use, this may not prove true for everybody. Linux takes more attention and study than Windows, as it’s made more for programmers and people who are used to playing with technology. Windows, on the other hand, is made for people who are mainly interested in using the technology for specific purposes without necessarily understanding it. The Linux OS is actually updated on a regular basis. Of course, the same is true for Windows, but in this case you simply install it by hitting a few keys. We also recommend doing some research on Linux yourself to make sure this is what you want. Anyone that is willing to spend some time learning the Linux system will definitely be a candidate for this OS.
Linux support might seem like it would be hard to find, but that’s not the case. With the majority of computers in the world using Windows, it seems only natural, that Windows users and their problems, receive most of the technical support. If you check it out, you’ll find a different story. You might have to do a little work by searching, but you will find Linux has quite good tech support. Most of it is found on forums and is mainly informal. When you go to a Linux forum and pose a question about a problem, you will get a prompt reply, normally. Your answers or technical support will be available, even though it won’t be the same as when you have a licensed version of windows.
If you want a more secure experience with your computer, Windows falls far short of Linux. Of the three, Linux, Windows or Macintosh, Windows is easily the least secure operating system. Because of its massive popularity and the way it is designed are mainly the reasons for this. Most of the troublesome programs are aimed right at Windows, and some of these are viruses, spyware and malware. Viruses and malware are almost never an issue with Linux users, but there is no computer that is 100% secure. This saves you from having to constantly update your anti-virus software or worry about your privacy being invaded. Linux is definitely safer than Windows, but you still need to share personal information while using common sense.
Nothing can please all people, and that goes for operating systems on computers. Both Linux and Windows have their good and bad points. What appeals to you, doesn’t appeal to someone else. You might like Linux, if you like knowing how things work on the inside. Windows is the best option for all of those people who like things when they are user friendly.
